But when you flip the package over and read the&nbsp;<strong>ingredient list<\/strong>, the truth is often very different.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In this post, I&#8217;m exposing\u00a0<strong>5 foods that pretend to be healthy \u2013 but are secretly junk food in disguise.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Granola Bars<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2c90304e wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why you think they&#8217;re healthy:<\/strong><br>They&#8217;re made with oats, nuts, and honey. They say &#8220;whole grain&#8221; and &#8220;natural&#8221; on the box. They&#8217;re often sold in the health food aisle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why they&#8217;re actually junk food:<\/strong><br>Most granola bars are loaded with\u00a0<strong>high-fructose corn syrup<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>brown rice syrup<\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong>honey<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 which is still sugar. Many contain as much sugar as a candy bar (up to\u00a0<strong>15g per bar<\/strong>). It&#8217;s a breakfast staple for health-conscious people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why it&#8217;s actually junk food:<\/strong><br>Flavored yogurts \u2013 especially fruit-on-the-bottom, Greek honey, or kids&#8217; yogurts \u2013 are packed with&nbsp;<strong>added sugar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>cornstarch<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>artificial flavors<\/strong>. Fruit Juice (Packaged)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why you think it&#8217;s healthy:<\/strong><br>It says &#8220;100% fruit juice&#8221; or &#8220;no added sugar.&#8221; It&#8217;s made from fruit \u2013 fruit is healthy, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why it&#8217;s actually junk food:<\/strong><br>Even 100% fruit juice has&nbsp;<strong>as much sugar as soda<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 around&nbsp;<strong>20-30g per glass<\/strong>. The problem? When you juice fruit, you&nbsp;<strong>remove all the fiber<\/strong>&nbsp;that normally slows down sugar absorption. This causes a&nbsp;<strong>massive blood sugar spike<\/strong>&nbsp;(just like drinking soda). They look beautiful and vibrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why they&#8217;re actually junk food:<\/strong><br>Store-bought smoothies (especially from chains) are often made with&nbsp;<strong>fruit juice concentrates<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>sherbet<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>ice cream<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>honey<\/strong>, or&nbsp;<strong>sugar syrups<\/strong>. A large smoothie can contain&nbsp;<strong>over 80g of sugar<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 that&#8217;s&nbsp;<strong>20 teaspoons<\/strong>! The vegetable content is minimal \u2013 most are made from&nbsp;<strong>potato starch, corn flour, and vegetable powder<\/strong>.
